Featured Design: Chandzeli

Chandzeli One of Hazara’s unique new designs is called Chandzeli, which means “polygon”.

The Chandzeli design was inspired by a pattern originally found decorating a 19th century mosque, now preserved in the Kabul Museum. The surviving fresco is approximately seven feet wide by five feet tall. The intersecting geometric lines create unique internal shapes.

“You can study this carpet for a long time. There’s always something different that pops out at you,” says one fan of the Chandzeli.

Our artists then chose flower motifs to fill out the design, giving the carpet a look reminiscent of a stained glass window. Sunflowers, wildflowers, almond blossoms and morning glories provided inspiration.

Hazara then consulted with a US based designer to choose colors appropriate for the western market. The Chandzeli carpets now come in two basic color themes, with the geometric lines featured in either green or gold.
